There is no single Arizona rule to comply with

This is the most common and most expensive misunderstanding we encounter. Arizona has no statewide emergency responder radio coverage authority. Each municipality adopts its own edition of the fire code and layers its own amendments on top, and the amendments are not cosmetic. Scottsdale, for instance, sets a minimum inbound and outbound signal strength of −95 dBm — a stricter threshold than some neighbouring jurisdictions apply — along with additional high-rise provisions. Phoenix governs the same subject under Section 510 of its own fire code, with its own amendment set and an explicit requirement that installed systems not interfere with the city's radio system.

For a single-building owner this is a detail. For anyone with a portfolio spread across the Valley, or across Phoenix and Tucson, it means a design accepted in one city may not be accepted in the next, and a compliance template applied uniformly across the portfolio will be wrong somewhere. We scope against the specific AHJ for each building rather than against a generic national baseline, and we recommend confirming the currently adopted edition with that AHJ before any design is finalized.

Outside the metros, distance is the whole problem

Arizona has a great deal of economically significant building stock a long way from a dense macro network — mining operations, utility-scale solar, agricultural processing, data centers built where power and land are cheap, and correctional and institutional facilities placed deliberately far from population. In these locations the interesting question is often not how much signal the building loses, but whether there was ever an adequate signal at the property line to begin with.

That reframes the survey. Exterior and approach readings become as important as the indoor grid, because they establish whether an off-air solution is physically possible or whether the site needs a dedicated source. It is entirely normal for a remote Arizona survey to conclude that no amount of in-building distribution will help, and that is a genuinely valuable finding — it is considerably cheaper to learn it from a survey than from a commissioned system that does not work.

Heat, distance and how we schedule

Arizona imposes two practical constraints on survey work that firms flying in tend to underestimate. The first is heat: rooftop donor readings between June and September have to be taken early in the day, and a survey plan that ignores this loses time it did not budget. The second is distance — Arizona is large, and a Yuma, Flagstaff or Page site is a multi-day commitment regardless of how quick the measurement itself is.

Being based in the state is how we keep both of these from becoming line items. Metro Phoenix is same-day. Tucson and the more distant sites are scoped as blocks, and where an owner has several properties in a region we will say plainly that batching them into one visit is cheaper than three separate trips.

Do you actually travel across Arizona, or only the Phoenix area?
Across the state. We are based in Goodyear, so metro Phoenix is same-day and everywhere else is a scheduled multi-day visit. Rural and remote sites — mines, solar, data centers, correctional facilities — are routine work rather than an exception, and being in-state keeps the travel component modest.
Is there one Arizona ERRCS standard I can design to?
No, and assuming otherwise is the most common expensive mistake here. Emergency responder radio coverage is regulated municipally in Arizona. Each jurisdiction adopts its own fire code edition with its own amendments, and thresholds genuinely differ between neighbouring cities. Each building has to be scoped against its own authority having jurisdiction.
Do you survey outside Arizona?
Yes — we take work nationwide. Arizona is simply the market where we carry no travel overhead and already know the jurisdictions. For out-of-state buildings the methodology is identical; the difference is that travel and lodging appear in the scope and we research the local AHJ requirements rather than already knowing them.
