Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Cell Surveys ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application and website.
1. Information We Collect
Location Information
We collect precise location data from your device, including:
- GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude)
- Location accuracy and source
- Speed and direction when moving
- Timestamps
We collect location data while the app is running in the foreground and background (with your permission). Location data is essential for mapping network coverage.
Some location information may be inferred even when GPS is disabled, using IP address geolocation or network-based location services.
Cellular Network Information
We collect information about the cellular networks your device connects to, including:
- Cell tower identifiers
- Network identifiers
- Signal strength measurements
- Network technology type (LTE, 5G, etc.)
- Carrier information
This data helps us map cellular coverage and signal quality across geographic areas.
WiFi Network Information
We collect information about WiFi networks detected by your device, including:
- Network names (SSIDs)
- Access point identifiers
- Signal strength
- Frequency and channel
- Security type (Open, WPA2, etc.)
Privacy Protection: We automatically filter out mobile hotspots and personal devices to protect individual privacy.
Bluetooth Device Information
We collect limited information about nearby Bluetooth devices:
- Device count (number of devices detected)
- Device category (speaker, headphones, beacon, etc.)
- Signal strength
Privacy Protection: We do NOT collect Bluetooth device names or hardware identifiers, as these can identify individuals.
Sound Level Information
We collect ambient sound level measurements from your device's microphone:
- Decibel level (ambient noise level)
- Timestamps
Privacy Protection: We measure sound levels only. We do NOT record, store, or transmit audio content, voice, speech, or conversations.
Ambient Light Information
We collect ambient light sensor readings from your device:
- Light level (lux measurement)
- Timestamps
This data is used to map environmental lighting conditions alongside other survey data.
Mileage and Trip Information
We automatically log distance traveled during active surveys:
- Daily mileage totals
- Trip start and end times
This data helps you track survey activity and is associated with your account.
Device and App Information
We collect information about your device and how you use our app, including:
- Device model and manufacturer
- Operating system version
- App version
- App installation identifiers
- Battery level
- Mock location detection (to ensure data accuracy)
Account Information
If you sign in with Google, we receive:
- Email address
- Display name
- Account identifier
Website Information
When you use our contact form, we collect the email address and message you provide. The form is processed by Formspree. Cloudflare Turnstile protects against spam and may collect limited device/browser data per Cloudflare's privacy policy.
2. How We Use Your Information
Provide and Improve Our Services
- Display network coverage maps and signal quality data
- Calculate usage statistics
- Create crowd-sourced coverage maps
Ensure Quality and Accuracy
- Filter out fake or inaccurate location data
- Validate data integrity
- Detect and prevent abuse
Analytics and Research
- Understand how our apps are used
- Identify areas with poor network coverage
- Improve wireless network infrastructure (through anonymized data)
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to network insights.
3. Information We Share
Aggregated and Anonymized Data
We share aggregated, anonymized network coverage data with:
- Network operators to help improve wireless coverage
- Industry partners for connectivity research
- The public through crowd-sourced coverage maps
This data cannot identify individual users.
Fleet Members
If you join a fleet (a group of users who share survey data), your survey data is aggregated with other fleet members' data. Fleet members can view aggregated heatmap data from the group, but cannot see individual members' raw data or identify which data came from which member. Joining a fleet is voluntary and requires a fleet token and PIN.
Service Providers
We use third-party services to operate our apps, including cloud hosting, authentication, and mapping services. These providers process data on our behalf under contractual privacy obligations.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share identifiable data with third parties for their independent use.
4. Data Retention
We retain data only as long as necessary for our services:
- Survey data (location, cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, sound, light) - Up to 24 months, then automatically deleted
- Mileage logs - Up to 24 months
- Usage statistics - Up to 12 months
- Account information - Until you delete your account
- Fleet membership data - Until you leave the fleet or delete your account
- Contact form data - Up to 90 days after responding
Aggregated, anonymized datasets derived from survey data may be retained indefinitely, as they cannot identify individual users. Raw data is automatically deleted after the applicable retention period.
5. Your Choices and Controls
Consent
You must provide explicit consent before we collect any data. You can:
- Grant consent when first using the app
- Revoke consent at any time in app Settings
Revoking consent stops all data collection immediately.
Permissions
You control data access through your device settings. You can deny or revoke permissions at any time, though this may limit app functionality.
Account Deletion
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by:
- Using the "Delete Account" option in the app's Settings
- Or contacting us via our contact form with the email associated with your account
Upon receiving a deletion request, we will delete your account and all associated personal data (survey data, location history, mileage logs, and account information) within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained.
Your Rights
Depending on your location (e.g., GDPR in EU/EEA, CCPA/CPRA in California, other U.S. state laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, object, or restrict processing. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where applicable.
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and automatic data expiration. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
Our apps are not intended for children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us immediately.
8. International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using our apps, you consent to this transfer.
